Like the bare trees in winter, the dancers of A\u2019lante Flamenco have been toiling away quietly in order to splash out with new blooms this Spring! The company celebrates springtime with dance and music this month with two offerings at the Dougherty Arts Center.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Friday, April 22<\/strong>, 7:30pm<\/strong>: A\u2019lante debuts the film version of their 2018 production \u201cJuana: Primero Sue\u00f1o (First I Dream)\u201d which depicts the life and work of Mexican poetess and nun Sor Juana Ines de la Cruz through the lens of flamenco. From her dual love of words and religion through her rebellion against the Church, \u201cJuana\u201d uses dream imagery, flamenco music and dance, and the voices of the Texas Early Music Project singers to transport viewers to Juana\u2019s world. Film by Paul Shirley. Reservations required for admission. Doors open at 7pm. <\/p>\n\n\n\n Saturday, April 23, 7:30pm<\/strong>: On Saturday, April 23, A\u2019lante Flamenco reawakens from their Covid-19 dream state with \u201cAl Despertar,\u201d (Awakening) presenting new and in-progress works in a fiery flamenco show featuring choreography by Olivia Chacon, danced by A’lante Flamenco and special guest dancers from Flamencura Music and Dance. Music by A’lante Flamenco featuring Isai Chacon, Celia Corrales, Jose Manuel Tejeda, and Tony Hampton.Reservations required for admission.
